The Johannesburg City Council has launched an ambitious and far reaching initiative called Walkable Braamfontein. It involves the construction of new pedestrian walkways and pedestrian pavements that will eventually link the Johannesburg Metro Centre, and its recently opened new Mayoral Chamber, with the Gautrain Park Station and the rest of Braamfontein including the Nelson Mandela Bridge. The first pilot phase, currently under construction, puts the Protea Hotel by Marriott Johannesburg Parktonian All-Suite at the centre of this imaginative plan. Needless to say, our hotel and our neighbours are co-operating extensively with the City Council in getting this scheme implemented. It will produce far reaching positive outcomes for the citizens of Johannesburg and visitors to the city and to our hotel. The following artists impressions show how the area and streets immediately surrounding the hotel will look on completion of this first phase. Artists perspective from above the Parktonian.
